Ebbsfleet Primary School sits at the heart of a new development, Ebbsfleet Green, which forms part of the new Ebbsfleet Garden City. The school is two form entry and caters for 461 students from nursery to year six and provides SRP for 15 pupils with ASD.

The design features a ‘U shaped’ building with:

  • Specialist Resource Provision on both floors. This is unusual in schools, but this approach promoted inclusion and enabled the students to feel part of the mainstream, rather than isolated separately.
  • A double height entrance space that provides a welcoming atmosphere. Visitors can view up and see the hive of activity the school is, including seeing into the dance studio.
  • The new hall is located adjacent the entrance plaza, allowing access out of school hours and providing a community facility.
  • A central courtyard area for students to collaborate, innovate and educate in.
  • Breakout spaces that encourage independence and create a learning atmosphere.

Along with the statement entrance, the design features a distinctive saw tooth roof feature, enabling the project to stand out whilst merging with the adjacent residential vernacular. It produces an interesting angular design whilst remaining subtle and integrated. The project was constructed via a modular solution and 98 modular units were craned into place over four one-week phases. The scheme achieved BREEAM Very Good.
