Appeal Success for new homes and a new drop off for the local primary school that will "significantly improve the rather chaotic situation".
25no. new homes and new car parking facility for a primary school have been granted approval following a successful appeal. Designed for Fernham Homes and located in the village of Newington, near Sittingbourne, this sensitively designed scheme borders the quiet village and Church of England Primary School.
Designed and coordinated, following consultation with key stakeholder, by the design team - gdm architects, DHA Planning Group, Murdoch Wickham, EDLA - Landscape Architects, Bakerwell Ltd, Fairhurst & The Urban Forest Consultancy - a sympathetic development of two-to-four-bedroom homes has emerged, featuring a gain in biodiversity through the inclusion of enhanced green spaces and the use of local materials to create distinctively Kentish residential architecture.
However, a key driver in the social value of the project is the creation of a drop off and car parking solution for the adjacent school. For a while, parents have been using a temporary space on the land acquired by Fernham Homes, which has proved beneficial for reducing idling cars on the main road. The creation of this dedicated drop off and parking area, to be gifted to school, will create safe and free flowing one-way traffic which will alleviate road pressures and provide safer access for pupils.
These elements together provide much needed facilities and sustainable housing for the area, delivering positive benefits to the village of Newington.
